Schools, education and childcare New Secondary Special School for Manchester

Proposal for a new secondary special school

In response to significant growth in demand for specialist provision, we are seeking expressions of interest from DfE approved sponsors to run a new secondary special school in north Manchester.  This is in line with the national process for establishing new schools.

This will be a new purpose-built 150 place secondary special school with post-16 provision to be located at Sawley Road in north Manchester. Funding for the construction of the school will be met from High Needs Capital allocation.  The new school is proposed to open in September 2024.

We would welcome interest from multi academy trusts or interested parties with a track record of delivering the very highest standards of specialist education.

Effective schools with high quality teaching and leadership are key to achieving the Council’s ambitious vision for the City and the trajectory of improvement across our family of schools is a positive one.  This is an opportunity to become part of Manchester's family of schools and develop a new school located in the north of the City.
