Charlie's interview - transcript

Charlie - PlanBEE Apprenticeship Graduate

I wasn’t looking at apprenticeships to be fair. When I finished college I came out with three A levels. I decided I wanted to go to University and study a Business Management course of some sort. And then one day I was looking online at different opportunities that I could potentially put myself in for, and i found the PlanBEE Manchester course. I decided to apply for it and then the rest is history: I got an interview, got the part, and then I just found myself falling on my feet within the industry.

I went straight into an architectural role on The Town Hall with a company called Purcell, who are heritage architecture – and that’s the first time that i was on a live site, working with different teams in different industries. I found myself really enjoying it; being part of a wider team and seeing that collaboration between different parties and it coming to life on a project. So, yeah – that's when I started running with the course and actually finding myself enjoying it.

There’s always going to be some sort of guidance available for you, through your mentors or through the team that you work with. I genuinely think - looking back now – that PlanBEE has offered such a brilliant opportunity for myself, because of the nature of this apprenticeship, you’re not nailed down to one job role. Before I joined this course, I had no idea about the sheer amount of roles that are available. For any apprentices going forward, jumping onto the scheme, my one bit of advice would be “just ask questions of everyone that you can. Be confident, enjoy yourself as well on the course.” Everyone’s there to help you and to help you grow and learn, so just enjoy your time here. Yeah – 100%!

Ends.
