Planning and regeneration Building regulation approval

Submit a building notice

You don't need to submit plans with your application, but you must feel confident that the works comply with building regulations or you risk having to correct it after we've inspected it. Check if your work complies with building regulations.

Depending on the work, we may ask you to submit plans and calculations at a later stage.

You do not get a formal approval notice like you do with full plans.

The building notice is valid for three years, but work can begin as soon as two days after you've submitted your application

We'll come to inspect the work at the start, the end and at various stages to make sure it meets the building regulations standards. After you've submitted your application, you must let us know when work starts.

You'll need to include the appropriate payment with your notice.
