Consultations and surveys Consultation: funding for voluntary and community sector organisations in Manchester

The priorities we think we should have for voluntary and community sector funding

Strong relationships with other public bodies and voluntary and community sector organisations

We’ll have everything in place to have good relationships with other organisations so we all work well together. We’ll have clear, simple procedures for sharing information so we can all make well-informed long-term decisions.

Strong relationships between voluntary and community sector and businesses

The funding we give should encourage and help develop strong relationships between voluntary and community organisations and businesses.

Working together

We’ll encourage organisations to work together - sharing information, planning together, holding joint events and supporting one another. Larger organisations should help smaller ones to develop and help to make sure there is a wide range of voluntary and community organisations in Manchester.

A range of funding

Larger grants should only be part of the funding organisations get.

Fair funding for different places and ‘communities of identity’

We need to provide funding to both organisations that work in particular areas and those that work across the whole city. We also need to provide funding to those that work with ‘communities of identity’ or equalities groups, such as groups for disabled people or the LGBT community. We’ll have an agreed set of principles for how the funding will be shared out.

Funding for both large and small organisations

Manchester has organisations of all sizes and kinds and all have important roles to play.

Well governed organisations

We’ll require the organisations we fund to be well-governed – with the right management, structures and rules and there should be support to help them get it right.

Continuous learning and improvement

The VCSE sector needs challenge and support to keep on improving and coming up with good ideas.

Infrastructure support

Organisations need infrastructure support – help with the practical aspects of running an organisation. Help with things like:

  • sharing information
  • working with others
  • governance
  • learning and improvement
  • volunteering
  • funding
