What is the local information requirements list?

Also known as a local validation list, it sets out the information we need to be able to register, assess and determine planning applications.

The amount of information required will vary depending on the type, scale and location of the proposed development, including any site specific constraints. Not all the information will apply to every planning application.

We will only ask for what is required to determine the planning application. However, we want to ensure that there is sufficient information at the point of validation to allow for meaningful consultation and full consideration of proposals submitted. This is in line with our commitment to improve transparency and confidence in the decision making process.

Why are we consulting?

New local and national policies and guidance mean we need to review the local information requirements list. National guidance also requires that local information requirement lists are reviewed periodically to ensure that it is reasonable and up-to-date.

Key changes to the local information requirements

There are several changes to the lists; the most notable relate to our requirements for outline and full planning applications. Among the changes there is a requirement for an affordable housing statement and a viability assessment to support new housing developments. Where a proposal involves the loss of employment land, there will be a requirement to provide information about the impact on jobs.

The lists also provide more detail on the level of information required, for example what needs to be included in a heritage statement.
