Our Manchester 2025—2035 survey first phase
Between February and May 2024 we spoke to as many people as possible to support the development of the new Our Manchester strategy 2025—35.
We asked people from across our communities what mattered to them and what they want our city to focus on for the next ten years.
Our city’s future shaped by you
We saw a huge response both online and through a series of in-person events in a variety of locations right across Manchester. This helped as many people as possible be part of the conversation so they could share their views.
We asked:
- What makes you proud of Manchester?
- What should Manchester do next – or do more of – to make its mark on the world stage?
- What do you want Manchester to be like in the future?
- If you could do one thing to make Manchester better, what would it be?
- How can Manchester make this one thing happen?
Over 10,000 of you responded. Your responses have shaped the draft themes and priorities developed for this next phase.
The themes that came through were:
Our People:
- Pride in place
- Supporting people where needed (eg cost of living and health)
- Employment and training
- Opportunities for leisure and things to do
- Respecting people’s dignity and right to equality at all stages of life.
Our Neighbourhood:
- Safety and security
- Cleanliness and improvements to neighbourhoods
- Housing – affordability, availability, different tenures
- Transport – active travel, access to public transport, and facilities for cars
- Green spaces
- Community facilities.
Our city:
- Investment in facilities and services
- Pride in Manchester
- Things to do across all of Manchester and not just the city centre
- Transport.
These are the main priorities that you told us were most important:
- You were most proud of the people of Manchester, their character and attitude.
- You are proud of Manchester’s diversity and its community spirit.
- You want to be heard and be part of things more.
- You are proud of the city’s public transport but want to see more and ongoing improvements as we move into the next decade.
- You want to see a cleaner and greener Manchester with less litter, graffiti, fly tipping and dog fouling and you want to see improved green spaces and more nature.
- Safety is an important issue, and you want to see more being done to tackle or prevent crime and antisocial behaviour, and to improve relationships between the police and communities.
Your responses have now shaped the second part of the development of the Our Manchester Strategy 2025—35 and will be a key part of our plans for the coming decade.
