Background
From 1 June 2025, it became illegal in the UK to sell or supply single-use vapes. This is under the Environmental Protection (Single-use Vapes) (England) Regulations 2024.
The ban covers any disposable vapes that:
- Cannot be refilled
- Have a battery that cannot be recharged
The aim is to:
- Reduce harm to the environment caused by waste from these products
- Reduce vaping among young people
Manchester City Council Trading Standards is responsible for enforcing these rules. As part of this role, we must:
- Publish guidance on how we will use fines, notices, and other penalties
- Ask for feedback on this guidance before it is final
