Green Flag Award

Opened in 1866 Philips Park Cemetery was the first municipal cemetery in Manchester. It is next to the River Medlock, attracting an array of birds and animals to its banks and also adjacent to Philips Park, which was named after Mark Philips, a local businessman and Member of Parliament.

Famous people buried in Philips Park include war heroes from The Battle of Rorkes Drift, part of the Anglo-Zulu War, which took place on 22 January 1879 in South Africa.
