Measles vaccination events for Manchester universities' students and staff
Measles spreads very easily: even a cough or sneeze can spread the infection. It is most common in children, but adults can also be infected, particularly if they haven’t had the MMR vaccination.
Places that are full of people for long periods make ideal conditions for infections to spread quickly. Universities, colleges and schools are great environments for spreading infection.
Just 15 minutes with someone who has measles is enough time to pass the virus on. You’re infectious from when you first have symptoms (about 4 days before the rash appears) until 4 days after you get the rash.
Make sure that you're protected with two doses of the MMR vaccine. If you're not, come along to one of our pop-up MMR vaccination events. They're taking place for students and staff of Manchester's universities. If you're not sure whether you've been vaccinated already, come along anyway. No appointment is needed.
Dates and locations of the pop-up MMR vaccination events are:
- Tuesday 10th February- 11am to 5pm
- Tuesday 10th March- 11am to 5pm
- Occupational Health Service, 4th Floor, Crawford House, Booth Street East, Manchester. M13 9QS
We can also check to see if you are eligible for other vaccinations such as:
- Human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) is the name of a very common group of viruses. They do not cause any problems in most people, but some types can cause genital warts or cancer. Find out more on HPV vaccine.
- Men ACWY vaccine helps protect against life-threatening illnesses like meningitis and sepsis. It's offered to teenagers in school but can be given up to the age of 25 if it's been missed. Find out more on Men ACWY vaccine.
