This is Bikeability, which takes place in schools across the country.

We’re doing Bikeability Level One here at the moment, which is looking at children and their bike skills, and we’re aiming to help them improve their bike skills so that we can go and do Bikeability Level Two. That's where we take them out onto the roads near the school and give the children the chance to learn how they can ride on the roads safely, get used to some traffic, and gradually increase the traffic so, as they get more confidence, they’re able to deal with it a little bit more.

As well as the Bikeability scheme there’s lots that people can do: for children it’s important that they’re fully aware, but as adults it’s really important that people understand that they need to be careful for other people using the roads, so particularly people who are driving.

We spend a lot of time in schools and a lot of parents who come to schools don’t really take enough attention around schools and drive in quite dangerous ways in their desperation to get as close to the school as possible, but generally everybody using the road should be aware and looking out for everybody and trying to share the space as safely as possible.
