The Council and democracy Budget consultation 2026/27

Children's Services

  • Budget this current financial year: £177.176million

  • £1.402million value for money options from Children’s Services over 3 years.

How we spend this budget

Children’s social care budgets support and protect young people who need help. Education budgets make sure every child has high-quality education and learning. They also support some families early, to stop them needing further help later.

65% of the social care element funds children in care. The rest supports children leaving care and funds Early Years, Early Help and Youth Justice.

Most of the education budget goes directly to schools. But it also covers school admissions, place planning, home to school transport and school crossings.

We fund extra services for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Things like education psychology, short breaks, and support for school attendance.
