Homes and property Advice on helping people who are sleeping rough

Real Change MCR helps those sleeping rough to get off the streets

Giving money directly to the homeless doesn’t help people long-term. Even if the person receiving the money has a real need, the benefit is short-term.

We support the Real Change MCR campaign, which works with charities, voluntary and public sector organisations to provide real, long-term solutions to homelessness.

Real Change MCR fund gets your donations to the people who need most help — getting those sleeping rough into housing, rather than just helping them to survive on the streets.

The fund pays for real things people need to rent, furnish and maintain a home, like:

  • deposits and the first month’s rent
  • travel to their new home
  • practical items like pots and pans, bed linen or a sofa
  • clothes for job interviews
  • education or training courses.

Support from these agencies is often ongoing, to ensure that people are able to continue to maintain their tenancies and access support where needed — reducing the risk of people slipping back into homelessness.

The organisations who can apply for the funds use a quick application process and can be given the money almost immediately.
