16. MCC Processes - Private Fostering

16.1 If a child is under 16 (under 18 if they’re disabled) and they go to live with someone who’s not a close relative or legal guardian for 28 days or more, it counts as ‘private fostering’. The adults concerned must notify Children’s Services, who will visit to ensure that the care arrangements are suitable for the child and whether the child needs any additional support. 16.2 Foster parents should follow the same processes as other parents and will need to consider carefully whether EHE is in the best interests of the child they are caring for, especially if it is unclear how long the arrangement will last for.
