The Council and democracy Building Stronger Communities Together strategy 2023 to 2026

This programme of work focuses on the people in our city. It’s looking at how we can improve social cohesion. We are looking at the relationships between communities and within them. Part of this is how they interact with public institutions.

This boils down to the impact that we all can have when living alongside our:

  • friends
  • families
  • neighbours and
  • colleagues.

In summer 2022, we asked residents for their thoughts and found three main goals:

  1. Relationships: connecting people from different groups.
  2. Participation: helping communities work together to improve their neighbourhoods.
  3. Belonging: making everyone feel part of their local area and the city of Manchester.

Each part of Manchester is different. So we’ve kick-started ongoing activities that help make those three priorities happen. In key areas this work is helping us understand what bonds people together. And it looks at how we can better bridge across differences.
