This City is a new kind of housing company: we don’t just construct housing – we plan and build homes to create communities – a great company putting a unique Manchester twist on how and why homes are built and managed.
We’re a new venture that will develop high quality, low-carbon housing for all Mancunians. Both higher-cost and lower-cost homes will share high quality standards, complemented by excellent management and maintenance.
This includes building accessible homes available at or below the Local Housing Allowance level, which means they will be accessible to people on housing benefit. We call it the Manchester Living Rent.
This City – a Council-owned company – is stepping up with sound, long-term investment. It’s a new, key part of Manchester’s journey to recovery.
We’re going to line up the new housebuilding with Manchester people’s needs, putting that at the core of what we do, and keeping it true to our city’s spirit and character. For the first phases, the Council will free up its land for this housing, and finance the schemes directly.
It’s a sign of our city’s strength that there’s still new housing for rent and for sale. But this is Manchester, and we want more. So, we’ll build more. And because this is Manchester, we’ll do it differently: ourselves – as a city.
This City will boost the number of new homes in the development pipeline. Our ambition is to build up to 500 a year, making sure growth benefits the people of Manchester, raising the bar by making good quality housing available to more Mancunians.
We make no apologies for capitalising on Manchester’s house-building boom. Manchester must open every option to get more homes built. Business-as-usual, won’t do it. This City means business-but-better.
We’ll look to meet the high demand for high quality homes and invest to build genuinely great housing and neighbourhoods for the benefit of all Mancunians:
