Health and wellbeing Breastfeeding-Friendly Manchester

Women should never be made to feel uncomfortable about breastfeeding in public.  It is illegal for anyone to ask a breastfeeding woman to leave a public place, such as a cafe, shop or public transport, although such experiences are very rare.  Our scheme aims to encourage more mums to breastfeed in public places.

Research shows there are three main business benefits to encouraging breastfeeding:

  1. Attracting new customers. Recommendations for welcoming venues can travel quickly amongst new mums.
  2. It helps create a positive image for your business or service.
  3. It does not cost you anything to set up.

How to join

You'll just need to adopt a simple policy within your company or organisation and complete our short form.  We'll then post you a pack, including a window sticker for your door, and will display your details on our website.

The scheme is only open to businesses and organisations based within the city of Manchester.  Many Local Authorities outside Manchester run their own excellent schemes so please contact them for information.

If you have any questions, please email the team at phw@manchester.gov.uk.
