Roads and transport Manchester to Chorlton Cycle Way

Area 2 - Final design for Brooks Bar junction

Brooks Bar is the local name given to the junction of Chorlton Road, Moss Lane West, Withington Road, Upper Chorlton Road and Shrewsbury Street. The proposed work here was originally part of the Area 2 section of the Manchester to Chorlton cycleway route but was made a stand-alone project to allow time for design approval and avoid delaying other works on Area 2.

The proposal is to install a Cycle Optimised Protected Signal (CYCLOPS) junction, which allows traffic, cyclists and pedestrians to make all required movements around the junction while remaining fully segregated (see included design).

The design also involves closing Shrewsbury Street at Upper Chorlton Street and introduces a ban on turning left from Chorlton Rd into Moss Lane West. Both measures are to avoid congestion and support smooth traffic flow through the area.

Work to install the new junction will start on Monday 22 August and will continue until Spring 2023.

We will keep you informed of progress and any traffic management on these pages.
