Cycle hangars

We're installing new cycle parking to make it easier for residents to choose to cycle. A pilot scheme of nine hangars has been introduced across the city, and we’d like to install more to give access to safe and secure cycle parking to as many residents as possible.

We know that not having somewhere secure to store a bike can be a barrier to cycling. Cycle hangars offer an excellent solution, providing secure, covered storage for six bikes and are ideal for those who do not have space to store their bike at home. Residents who join the scheme will be allocated a space in a cycle hangar for an annual membership fee of approximately £70.

The cycle hangars will be installed on the road and take up the space of approximately half of one parking space. They are accessed from the pavement, are easy to open, and their design protects bikes from vandalism, theft, and wet weather.

Hangars are currently installed at:

  • Chorlton
  • Chorlton Park
  • Whalley Range
  • Old Moat
  • Levenshulme

If you live in one of the above areas, you can apply for your space in an existing hangar on the ‘rentals’ section of the Cyclehoop website.

If you would like a cycle hangar in your area, or your local hangar is full, you can apply for a new one to be installed via the ‘Suggest a new location’ section of the Cyclehoop website.
