A6 Sparrow Crossing (between Mayford Road and Belvoir Avenue)

We’ve chosen a contractor to build the new crossing on the A6 at Sparrow Crossing. Right now, the team is getting ready to start work. Building is scheduled to begin on the A6 Stockport Road in January 2026, after the Christmas embargo. Once we know the exact start date, we’ll share more details on our website and send letters to residents and businesses nearby.

Broom Lane (between Cronshaw Street and A6 Stockport Road)

We want to reassure residents that the updated plans for Broom Lane are still going ahead. The main design remains unchanged, but we’ve made some small technical improvements to help the project run smoothly.

Here are the key changes:

  • Broom Lane will stay open for two-way traffic. We won’t be adding the one-way chicane that was planned before.
  • The pavement on the west side of Broom Lane will be made wider—1.5 metres across—to make it safer and easier to use.
  • Improvements to the pavement and parking area on the east side of the road.
  • One streetlight to be moved to a new location.
  • We might need to move some underground services like gas, electricity, and phone lines.

To make these changes, we’ll need to reshape the road and pavement to make sure water drains properly and the kerbs are the right height. These upgrades needed extra money, which we’ve now secured. We’re finishing up the design and expect building work to start in early summer next year.
