530,150 people live in residential households (96%), 21,800 live in communal establishments (4%).

115,850 people live in a household occupied by one family, the most common household type. 

71,600 households (33%) are occupied by just one person, the most common household size, as in 2011 (72,250 households). 

Over a quarter of 1-person households are occupied by someone aged 66 and over. 

Just under 31,000 households (14%) are occupied by a lone parent, of which 20,250 have dependent children rather than non-dependent children.

The largest changes in household size since 2011 are in 4-person households (+2,750) and 5-person households (+2,600).

Ward

Cheetham has the highest ward population (21,450), Piccadilly has the smallest population (11,671) but a high density.  

Longsight has the highest number of people living in residential households (20,817), Deansgate has the smallest number (10,148). 

Hulme has the highest number of residents living in communal establishments (3,759) followed by Ardwick (3,650) and Deansgate (3,543). 

Gorton & Abbey Hey has the highest number of households (8,352), Fallowfield the lowest (4,314).
