Manchester Day 2026 Travel advice

Getting to Manchester Day

There are lots of ways to travel to Manchester Day on Sunday 26 July.

Plan your journey before you travel

Some transport services will be affected by planned works and road closures.

Use the Bee Network journey planner to check your route before you set off.

Plan your journey for Manchester Day.

Choose public transport if you can

Public transport is the easiest way to get into the city centre on the day.

The Bee Network connects communities across Greater Manchester by tram, bus, walking and cycling routes.

Choosing public transport, walking or cycling can help:

  • make your journey easier
  • reduce congestion in the city centre
  • lower emissions

Before you travel, check the latest service updates on the Bee Network app or at Transport for Greater Manchester.

Travel by tram

Most Metrolink services will be running during Manchester Day.

However, tram improvement works between 13 July and 2 August will affect some routes.

Tram service changes

  • No trams will run on the Altrincham, Eccles and Trafford Centre lines.
  • Services on the East Didsbury and Manchester Airport lines will terminate at Firswood.
  • Services on the Rochdale line will terminate at Exchange Square.

Check the latest tram information and replacement bus services before you travel:

Travel by bus or train

Manchester city centre is well served by bus and rail services from across Greater Manchester and beyond.

If you are travelling by train, check your journey before you leave. Engineering works will affect some rail services on Sunday 26 July.

Visit National Rail for the latest travel information.

Walk or cycle

If you are travelling from a nearby area, consider walking or cycling.

Cycle parking is available across the city centre. You can also hire a bike through the Starling Bank Bike hire scheme.

Travel by car

We recommend using public transport, walking or cycling where possible.

Road closures and parking suspensions will be in place in the city centre to support the parade and other Manchester Day activities. This will affect vehicle access.

If you need to drive:

  • plan your journey before you travel
  • allow extra time
  • check road closures before setting off
