Hark! The Lord Mayor sings…

Manchester Town Hall’s corridors will ring with festive cheer on Thursday 8 December at the Lord Mayor’s annual Christmas Carol Concert.

The building's splendid Great Hall will be filled with Yuletide spirit as the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Carl Austin-Behan invites visitors to share some Christmas cheer with a selection of traditional Christmas carols and hymns at the annual carol concert. The concert is free of charge and a wonderful way to begin the Christmas season.

This year, the Rev’d Canon David Holgate of Manchester Cathedral, will introduce the items following the Lord Mayor's Christmas Message. Carols will be performed by the Manchester Cathedral Voluntary Choir and Saint John Fisher and Thomas More RC Primary School Choir from Benchill. They will be accompanied by the Blackley Brass Band and for the first time Richard Lowe playing the Great Hall Cavaille-Coll organ.

Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Carl Austin-Behan said: “The Christmas Carol concert has become an unmissable highlight in the city’s festive calendar.

“As the cold winter nights draw in I’d like to invite everyone to join myself and Simon, Lord Mayors Consort, at the town hall to ring in Christmas, enjoy the wonderful yuletide performances and maybe even a mince pie or two.

“The concert is the prefect antidote to the hustle and bustle of December and offers us all the chance to take a step back and remember the true meaning of Christmas.”

After carols such as Hark! The Herald-Angels Sing and We Three Kings and hymns including Come All Ye Faithful and While Shepherds Watch’d Their Flocks by Night , festivities will be concluded with tea, coffee and of course mince pies.

The Christmas Carol Concert also spotlights the vital support The Lord Mayors Charity, We Love Manchester, provides to community projects across Manchester at Christmas and throughout the year, you can help a lot by giving a little at the end of the concert or simply text: MANC00 '£5' (or the value of your donation) to 70070.

The Lord Mayor’s Carol Concert takes place Thursday 8 December 7pm until 8pm in the Great Hall at Manchester Town Hall. Everybody is welcome and entry is free.
