Parents who have children due to start secondary school next September now have only have days left to apply for their child's school place
Time is fast running out to apply for a place and all applications must be made by the strict deadline of 5 pm this Thursday 31 October.
All families with children currently in their last year at primary school need to apply for a secondary school place before the deadline.
Parents who are still undecided which schools would be right for their child should get on-line now and look at school websites to see what different schools offer.
Parents are encouraged to list at least three school preferences on their application and also to rank their choices. This is important because if places are available at each of the schools named by the parent, an offer will be made for the school they rank highest.
The easiest and quickest way to apply is on-line and parents should have already received a letter with a unique identifying number for their child to speed up the on-line process.
Any parent who hasn’t received this can still apply on-line, it just takes a few minutes longer.
It is most important however that parents get their application in on time and don’t miss the deadline.
Parents who apply late after the deadline will have less chance of getting a place for their child at one of their preferred schools.
Councillor Garry Bridges, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Children and Schools, said:
"Time really is fast running out now with only days left for parents to apply for their child's secondary school place.
"Choosing a secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions parents have to make
"If you haven't applied yet, get on-line and get applying. It only takes five minutes and could make all the difference between your child getting one of your preferred schools or not.
"More secondary schools than ever in the city are classed as good or outstanding by Ofsted meaning there has never been a better chance to choose a Manchester school. So - do your homework, check out the schools you're interested in, and don’t miss the deadline."
Applicants will receive their offer of a school place on National Offer Day, March 2, 2020.
