Manchester City Council

Ancoats and Beswick

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and infrastructure

    • Run two “Dr Bike” repair sessions by December 2026. One session will take place at the Summer Cost of Living Event at Grange. The second session will take place at the Christmas Event at Bradford Park. These sessions will help residents fix their bikes and travel safely.
    • Work with MCR Active to host one Active Street event in the ward. The event will include a climate change information stall and we will engage with at least 25 residents.
    • Deliver one Clean Air Day activity at Ashbury Meadow Primary School. The activity will promote walking, cycling and scooting to school. It will encourage children and parents to choose healthier and cleaner ways to travel
    • Work with residents to improve the land at the back of Bosworth Street. The aim is to create a community garden that residents can use and enjoy.
    • Use Your Neighbourhood Fund money to support climate action. At least one new group will be funded to deliver a climate action project by April 2027

    Green and circular economy

    • Work with 4CT to deliver a cooking course for residents. The course will teach people how to eat healthily and save energy at home. The course will be delivered by April 2027.
    • Support three community litter picking days by December 2026. This will include events with the Ramage Walk Litter Picking Group, the Wataalam Group and residents from Bosworth Street.
    • Deliver a Waste and Recycling Engagement Day on 19 August 2026 on Chippenham Road in Ancoats. We will work in partnership with Jigsaw Homes and Biffa to help residents manage waste better and recycle more.
    • Work with Ashbury Meadow Primary School to clear an overgrown and fly-tipped area within the school grounds. The space will be turned into either a biodiversity area or a food growing project for pupils to use.
    • Fund at least one project that supports food growing and sustainable food. Aim to use Our Manchester Food Grants or Your Neighbourhood Funding for this.

    People and communities

    • Give climate action materials to 100 residents by March 2027. These may include seed planting packs, bulbs or reusable bottles. Items will be shared at the Summer Cost of Living Event at Grange, the Christmas Event at Bradford Park and the Cutting Room Square Christmas Event.
    • Provide climate related advice at all neighbourhood events with 50 or more residents. The advice will focus on how to save energy and money at home.
    • Work with Groundwork to deliver at least one bird or bat box-building session in a local primary school by March 2027.
