Ardwick

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • Support Co‑op Medlock, St Luke’s Primary School, and Dean Trust High School to trial School Streets. We will help the schools work towards permanent School Streets. Each school will run at least two trial road‑closure days during the year. These closures will help keep children safe and improve air quality.
    • Work with housing providers and residents on the Coverdale Estate. Together, we will improve recycling and care for the local environment. We aim to improve at least two green spaces over the year. We will also run a joint recycling campaign with partners to help residents recycle more and waste less.
    • Work with local partners and schools to deliver an event about air quality. This event will take place around Clean Air Day in June 2026.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • Support at least one reduce, reuse, and recycle project in the ward through the Your Neighbourhood Fund. This will help local groups take action to cut waste and support reuse.
    • Support community-led Greater British Spring Clean initiatives in the ward. Aim to deliver at least one Great British Spring Clean event with a new group or in a new area.
    • Provide climate related advice at Neighbourhood events. Engage with at least 50 residents. The advice will focus on simple ways to save energy and money at home. We will work with partners such as Groundwork’s Energy Doctors to offer clear and practical support.

    People and Communities

    • Deliver a joint climate change engagement event with Ardwick Climate Action on 20 May 2026. The event will help residents learn more about climate change and local action they can take.
    • Work with Ardwick Climate Action and the University of Manchester on a research project. The project will explore why people take part in climate and greening projects. It will also look at how to encourage more people to get involved.
    • Share climate action materials with residents. These may include seed planting packs, bulbs, or reusable bottles. We aim to reach at least 100 residents across a minimum of three community events by March 2027.
