Baguley

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • We will run two School Street road‑closure days with Baguley Hall Primary School. The roads will close at drop‑off and pick‑up times. This will help keep children safe and reduce air pollution. The days will raise awareness of clean air and healthier travel. This work will be supported by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Mums for Lungs
    • We will organise an Active Street event for the local community. The event will promote walking, cycling and healthier travel, celebrate local climate‑positive projects and bring neighbours together. The day will include free bike maintenance, GMP bike marking, Information about Your Neighbourhood Fund (YNF) grants
    • We will start a new Friends of Crowland Pond group. The group will help care for the pond and nearby paths. It will work to improve wildlife and make the area easier to access and enjoy. We will invite local people to get involved through a letter drop and on‑site meetings. Residents will be encouraged to help shape future plans and apply for funding to improve the space.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • Promote the Tree of Life and the Bideford Centre to local residents. We will work with schools, community groups, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and local VCSE organisations. This will help more people learn about upcycling. It will also help residents access affordable, good‑quality furniture. The work will support reuse and help reduce waste.
    • Deliver woodland sessions with Wythenshawe Scouts at Blackcarr Woods. The sessions will focus on learning about nature, tree planting and caring for the woodland. We will also develop a Junior Woodland Rangers pathway. Young people will take part in simple activities such as litter picking, wildlife surveys and building bird boxes. This will help build pride, skills and care for local green spaces.
    • Promote free education tours at Sharston Recycling Centre to local schools and community groups. These tours are offered by Recycle for Greater Manchester. Aim for at least one school or group to book and attend a visit.

    People and Communities

    • Work with Newall Green High School and St Paul’s to support them in signing up as Eco Schools. This will help pupils learn more about climate change and the environment. Students will be encouraged to take part in activities at school and in the wider community. This will help build long‑term environmental awareness and action.
    • Host a climate‑themed Community Connector event in Wythenshawe. We will work with Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and other local partners. The event will bring people together, strengthen local links and inspire new ideas. It will also help more residents get involved in climate and environmental projects.
    • Support Kenny’s Global Ltd with their sustainable sewing project to upskill volunteers at the Tree of Life. Support the group with an application to the Your Neighbourhood Fund and promote the project locally. This will help grow the project and increase community involvement.
