Manchester City Council

Brooklands

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • We will work with South Manchester Urban Brooks (SMUB) and local partners to create a flood prevention and response plan. This plan will aim to reduce the risk of flooding and limit the harm flooding can cause to homes, streets, and people.
    • Work with MCR Active and other partners to deliver an Active Street event in the ward. We will use the event to promote active travel and show how it supports climate change goals. We speak to at least 50 people at the event.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • Work with a new community group to help them run a Great British Spring Clean event. This will support a local clean‑up and help improve the local area.
    • Fund at least one project focused on food growing or reducing food waste. This will help people access food in a more sustainable way.
    • We will invite the Biffa engagement team to attend at least two community events in the ward. We will also organise one Biffa‑led assembly at a local primary school. The assembly will focus on waste, recycling, and reuse, and will take place by March 2027.

    People and Communities

    • During the year, we will attend three community events in the ward. At these events, we will speak to at least 50 residents in total. We will raise awareness of climate change and explain how small changes can make a difference. This includes growing food, using reusable bottles, recycling more, flying less, and saving energy at home.
    • Work with a local community partner to deliver a Climate Fresk workshop in the ward. The workshop will help people understand climate change and its impact in a clear and simple way.
    • We will fund at least one project in the ward through the Wythenshawe Live concert fund. The project will have a clear focus on climate change and environmental action.
    • We will work with Keep Manchester Tidy to identify schools in the area that are not yet part of the Eco‑Schools programme. Over the year, we will support and encourage at least three schools to achieve Eco‑Schools accreditation.
