Manchester City Council

Chorlton Park

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • Run a volunteer session as part of the Big Balsam Bash in local parks. This work will help protect green spaces and support wildlife. It will also help people learn how to remove invasive plants safely.
    • We will fund the creation of small pocket guides about nature. These guides will give simple tips on sustainable living and low‑cost ways to help nature and wildlife. We will share the guides and run nature and biodiversity activities at community events during the spring and summer.
    • We will work with MCR Active to deliver one Active Street event in Chorlton Park during the year. The event will create a safe space for walking, cycling, and play. We aim to speak to at least 15 residents about climate change and how small actions can help.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • Use funding from the Our Manchester Food Programme to promote food growing and sustainable food practices. We will fund at least two food growing projects in Chorlton Park. These projects will help people learn how to grow food locally and reduce waste.
    • support Chorlton Central Church to plan and deliver their Sustainability Summer Fair. We will provide funding for a bicycle maintenance workshop at the event. We will also work with local groups, including BMCA, The Den, and Arrowfield TARA, to host sustainability stalls at events they organise.
    • Support Open Kitchen MCR to find funding to deliver sustainable cooking sessions for primary school children in Chorlton Park. We aim to help them run at least one session this year. The session will focus on healthy food, reducing waste, and simple cooking skills.
    • After a successful clean‑up during the 2026 Great British Spring Clean, we will continue working with Loreto High School and the Arrowfield TARA group. Together, we will plan more litter‑picking events with students and local residents over the next year.

    People and Communities

    • We will share our “Small Steps, Big Change” pocket guides to partner organisations. The guides will provide easy to understand information and advice for residents around carbon literacy. They will also explain how people can support nature and biodiversity in their daily lives.
    • Run two biodiversity craft sessions at community centres in the ward. These sessions may take place at Chorlton Central Church, Barlow Moor Community Association, or The Den. The activities will help people learn about nature in a fun and creative way.
    • We will support Barlow Hall Primary School to improve their outdoor space. We will help the school secure funding to start a food growing project for pupils by the end of the year. This will support outdoor learning and healthy eating.
    • We will support Riverbank Community Allotment to improve their growing space. This will include looking at a Your Neighbourhood Fund application to add a greenhouse to the site.
