Manchester City Council

Levenshulme

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • We will support walking, wheeling, and cycling in the ward. We will share clear information about grant schemes such as the Transport for Greater Manchester Wheels and Walks Grant. We will promote national campaigns. This includes Road Safety Week and Clean Air Day.
    • We will create, support, and grow planting and greening projects across the ward. This includes alleyway greening projects. We will help organise greening projects with Noor Mosque and Madina Mosque. We will support groups such as the Bee Sanctuary. This includes installing more planters on Stockport Road. Planters will improve biodiversity and help stop pavement parking.
    • Oversee the installation of street trees at Byrom Parade. Also find other suitable locations for at least 10 more street trees across the ward.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • We will use funding to support at least two projects focused on food growing or sustainable food.
    • We will work to reduce the amount of waste on streets, in drains and in alleyways. We will support groups like Levenshulme Inspire Fly Tipping Task Force. We will also work with the Levenshulme District Team on a six-month programme of activity.
    • We will organise at least two volunteer action days to clean alleyways. We will focus on Marley Road, Hornbeam Avenue, and Bickerdike Avenue. We will involve local volunteers and use MCRVIP to encourage more people to take part.

    People and Communities

    • We will support funding bids to turn unused land into green, useful spaces. This includes Cringle Road, Southyard Street, Park Grove railway bridge, the train station car park, and Belvoir Avenue.
    • We will attend events at schools, Levenshulme Old Library, and Levenshulme Inspire. We will share sustainability messages and practical support as part of neighbourhood engagement. We will engage with at least 50 households over the year.
    • We will make sure the Your Neighbourhood Fund supports at least three climate‑action projects during the year.
    • We will encourage schools to join the Eco Schools Programme. We aim to get at least one new school signed up over the year.
