Ward-specific objectives
Place and Infrastructure
- Support at least one new local group to deliver a climate friendly project in the ward by March 2027. The project will be funded through the Your Neighbourhood Fund
- Work with MCR Active to host one Active Street event in the ward. The event will include a climate change information stall so local people can learn more and ask questions.
- Work with local housing providers to run a climate change activity at Avro Hollows Tenant Management Organisation. We will also identify at least one other local housing scheme and run similar activities there.
Green and Circular Economy
- Use the Our Manchester food security grant or Your Neighbourhood Fund to fund at least one food-related project. The project will support food growing and sustainable food in the community.
- Promote the Renew, Reuse, Recycle Hub at the Heathfield Centre and support it to grow. We will also promote the new Renew Shop on Reliance Street once it opens. We will invite the shop to attend at least two ward events to promote their work.
- Work with MCC Housing to keep the winter coat exchange running at Newton Heath Library. Aim to add at least one more place where people can drop off and pick up coats.
People and Communities
- Encourage and support shops and business owners on Church Street to look after the planters once they are emptied and replanted. By the end of the year aim to have helped establish a weekly litter pick on the street
- Host a climate change information stall in at least one local school over the year. Also use a smoothie bike to highlight the link between cycling and a healthy lifestyle.
- Hold at least one Fresk workshop with local young people in the ward over the year.
