Ward-specific objectives
Place and Infrastructure
- Work with the Age‑Friendly Network and local partners to support older residents. We will give out summer cooler bags and winter warmer bags. We will also run one winter wellness event. These activities will reach at least 50 residents. They will encourage simple, eco‑friendly actions that people can take at home.
- Deliver one project with Sow the City. The project will support growing food or greening spaces in the ward. It will help improve the local environment and bring people together.
- We will work with South Manchester Urban Brooks (SMUB) and local partners to create a flood prevention and response plan. This plan will aim to reduce the risk of flooding and limit the harm flooding can cause to homes, streets, and people.
Green and Circular Economy
- Work with one new community group to run a Great British Spring Clean event. This will be a local clean‑up to improve streets and shared spaces in the ward.
- Invite the Biffa engagement team to attend at least two community events in the ward. We will also organise one Biffa‑led assembly at a local primary school. The assembly will focus on waste, recycling, and reuse, and will take place by March 2027.
- We will work with a local school to deliver at least one Clean Air Day in the ward. This will help pupils and families learn about air pollution and how to reduce it.
People and Communities
- During the year, we will attend three community events in the ward. At these events, we will speak to at least 50 residents in total. We will raise awareness of climate change and explain how small changes can make a difference. This includes growing food, using reusable bottles, recycling more, flying less, and saving energy at home.
- Work with a local community partner to deliver a Climate Fresk workshop in the ward. The workshop will help people understand climate change and its impact in a clear and simple way.
- Fund at least one project in Northenden through the Wythenshawe Live concert fund. The project will have a clear focus on climate change and environmental action.
