Rusholme

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • Over the year, we will deliver the design phase for the Birch Calm Roads project. This is a resident‑led project that focuses on Road safety, greening streets and making roads calmer and safer for everyone
    • We will develop funding bids for environmental improvements in the Rusholme District Centre. This will be in addition to planting street trees. Projects may include investment in places such as Park Crescent.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • We will support resident‑led cleaning and greening activity. Our aim is to support at least three community‑led activities over the year. We will also work in partnership with organisations such as local universities.
    • Work with the Rusholme District Centre Traders collective to develop recycling initiatives within the area. Support the creation of joined up waste management contracts between businesses.
    • We will encourage residents to grow their own food. Over the year, we aim to fund at least one food growing project. This could include raised beds, tools, or training.

    People and Communities

    • Work with Creative Rusholme and Manchester Urban Growers to develop their Nature Neighbourhoods Plan. Provide resources to support with bulb planting, wildflower planting, green corridor work and street trees.
    • Deliver the Make a Metre Matter project. This is a partnership with University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and J Parkers. The project measures how small areas of planting help nature. Over the year we will help to set up Birchfields Park as one of the monitoring spots with dozens of new plants planted.
