    Support available for Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing people

    This service supports Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing people to prepare for work and find accessible employment.

    Support is delivered by Employment Advisors from the Deaf community, with strong skills in:

    • British Sign Language (BSL)
    • deaf awareness
    • employment rights for Deaf and Disabled people

    Weekly one‑to‑one support

    Clients can book weekly one‑to‑one sessions.
    These can be face‑to‑face or online.

    Advisors can help with:

    • finding accessible jobs or volunteering
    • writing CVs and job applications in English
    • understanding and replying to employer messages
    • translating employer communications into BSL
    • advice on Deaf rights, including:
      • Access to Work
      • Reasonable Adjustments

    Sessions are tailored to individual needs and goals.


    Monthly Job Club

    The Job Club runs once a month as a relaxed coffee morning.

    People can drop in to:

    • take part in short employability workshops
    • meet employers who want to recruit Deaf people
    • get job‑search information in British Sign Language

    Support at the Job Club includes:

    • interpreted talks from visiting organisations
    • one‑to‑one drop‑ins with Employment Advisors
    • peer support from other Deaf job‑seekers

    Deaf Job Fair (twice a year)

    The Deaf Job Fair runs twice a year.

    Clients can register to:

    • meet Deaf‑led and deaf‑aware employers
    • apply for jobs with confidence
    • explore roles across different sectors

    Other employment support services also attend.

    Employers who want to recruit Deaf talent can book accredited deaf‑awareness training directly with the service.

    Who this service supports

    This service supports people who are:

    • part of the Deaf community
    • hard‑of‑hearing
    • facing challenges with Access to Work
    • NEET (not in employment, education, or training)

    Support is inclusive and led by people with lived experience.

    Work search techniques, sign posting clients to relevant bodies e.g. BSL healthy mind, sign health, sensory teams, colleges, DWP etc. Various pre-employability training courses.

    Training in overcoming barriers to work, help with job search, application and transition to the workplace; work with employers to breakdown perceived barriers to the employment of deaf people.

    Business in the Community and employer beneficiaries of Deaf Awareness and Access to Work training by MDC through careers advice, work on job application and CV-writing, mock interviews and transition to the marketplace/workplace for deaf people at arms-length from the labour market
