Adult social care and support

What is social care?

Social care helps adults who need support with daily life. This could be due to:

  • Illness
  • Disability
  • Recovery from injury or operation
  • Big life changes

If you're 18 or older and live in the Manchester City Council area, we can help. You can get:

  • Advice and information
  • An assessment to see what support you need
  • Help even if you pay for care yourself

We also support carers, even if the person they care for doesn’t have an assessment.

Who provides social care?

Social care in Manchester is run by the Manchester Local Care Organisation (MLCO). This is a partnership between the Council and NHS.

MLCO offer services such as:

  • Safeguarding
  • Reablement (help to get back on your feet)
  • Short breaks
  • Support for learning disabilities

You can read or download a guide to social care for adults in Manchester which explains:

  • Who can get help
  • How to pay for care
  • How to manage your care budget
  • How to get and review support
  • How to raise concerns or report abuse

Visit the MLCO website for all details and the guide.
