Social services Being part of your community

As well as supporting you to keep in touch and have good relationships with people in your support system and family, we will also do help you to be an active member of your community.

Specialist Talents and Hobbies: If you have a special talent in music, sport, the arts, etc. and need extra money to pursue it, we can consider providing you with extra support

Volunteering: We’ll share details of voluntary work or opportunities to gain work experience with you, including things like the Manchester Food Partnership or community groups local to you

Mentors: You’ll have access to a trained mentor as you make the transition into adulthood

Signposting: We’ll provide information about groups, clubs or activities you may wish to get involved in, and go with you if you need moral support

Events: We hold regular events for care leavers, including free clothing events

Care Leavers Community Hub and Family Hubs: One-stop-shops for all the information you need, or a friendly chat

Arts: You’ll have access to reduced-cost theatre and cinema tickets across Manchester, such as at HOME

Use Manchester’s libraries

Exercise: Access gyms and leisure centres for free. We also organise regular walks in conjunction with the GM Ringway Charity. For more info: gmringway.org

Vote: We can help you to register to vote

Your life story: We’ll assist you to access records, support you to explore key points in your life and cover any fees to access them

Celebrate: We’ll mark your achievements at Manchester City Council award events and the Greater Manchester Care Leavers Awards

Keeping in touch: We want you to maintain the relationships that are important to you. If you have significant relationships with family and friends in the UK, we may provide a travel warrant for you to visit your loved ones. We could provide a monthly international calling card up to the value of £10 for young people not from the UK who have family and friends in other countries.

Care Leaver Covenant: The Government has introduced the Care Leaver Covenant to make specific offers to support care leavers aged 16 to 25 to live independently.
