Become an Independent Member or Independent Person
We're looking for people who can help us promote high standards of conduct in local government.
These are important public roles. You'll give an independent view on councillor conduct and help make sure decisions are fair.
You do not need formal qualifications. We're looking for people who can be fair, objective and impartial.
About the roles
Independent Member
Independent Members sit on our Standards Committee.
They help make sure the rules are followed. They also give an independent view when the committee looks at complaints about councillors. One Independent Member chairs the committee.
Independent Person
Independent Persons advise us when complaints are made about councillors.
They give an independent view before we decide what action to take. Councillors can also ask them for advice if someone has made a complaint about them.
