Cenotaph Volunteering Project

We Love MCR Charity has supported Volition Community to help establish an outreach volunteering programme in partnership with Manchester City Council at the Cenotaph. Through volunteering, the project aims to change the lives of the long term unemployed in Manchester.

The project recognises that work is the best route out of poverty but the journey to work can be complex, stressful and not always designed around the person.  Volition Community puts the person first and also imposes ‘no time limits’ so individuals can return to the programme if needed, unlike many other schemes.

Our support enabled the project to purchase branded hats, bags and sashes for the volunteers so they could engage with visitors, tourist and residents of Manchester on the Cenotaph. Volunteers embraced the opportunity to continue gaining new skills and knowledge and many gained employment during the course of the scheme. All volunteers without exception reported back on an increased sense of pride in their city.

We are delighted to announce that the project, which ran as a pilot for 12 weeks from July 2016, was so successful that it will be continuing on an ongoing basis.

Fun for All North

Many young people with disabilities face isolation and very little contact with other young people in the same situation as them. For their families life can be challenging and they often feel isolated too. Fun for All North supports young people with severe learning difficulties aged 5-18 and their families.

We Love MCR Charity were delighted to be able to provide support for a much needed family day out to Blackpool. 20 young people with disabilities and their siblings, parents and volunteers enjoyed a brilliant day out in July. They spent quality time together, meeting other families who are experiencing the same challenges, making new friends and experiencing new things.

Youth project in Gorton

We Love MCR Charity has provided a grant for table tennis equipment for a youth project in Gorton. Vision 2020 provides valuable sporting activities and mentoring for young people in the area which helps to develop their skills, confidence and self esteem.

With our support the project has been able to run a weekly table tennis club for young people, providing regular activity and a safe place to visit.
