Industrial processes & public register
Industrial installations
We are responsible for permitting and controlling specified industrial installations that require a permit under The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010, in order to regulate their environmental impact and emissions to air.
Processes have to operate to strict environmental controls set out in the National Guidance Notes provided by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)
Industrial processes that require permitting fall under two regimes. The larger installations (Part A1), such as power stations and chemical works are regulated by the Environment Agency.
The smaller installations (Part A2), and those that require control of emissions to air only (Part B), are regulated by us.
Public Register
There are two types of public registers:
- The City Council register provides details of all the Part B & Part A2 processes operating within Manchester, together with Revoked permit details
- The Environment Agency also provides a register for the larger (Part A1) installations which they regulate
