Chorlton residents vote on community projects
9 November 2011
Chorlton residents are being invited to vote on projects that could improve their community at an event next week.
Residents are being encouraged to have their say on how £7,500 worth of money should be spent during the Chorton Ward U Decide event, held at Chorlton Leisure Centre on Manchester Road at 6pm on Thursday November 17.
Groups from across the area were asked to apply for cash grants funding projects aimed at helping the community, ranging from flower planters to family fun days and youth projects, up to a maximum value of £750 each.
The deadline for these projects was last month and the groups will now explain their projects to their fellow residents during next week's event.
Residents who attend the U Decide event will be able to vote on which of these 15 projects they think should be given the thumbs up.
Councillor Jeff Smith, Manchester City Council's executive member for finance and human resources, said: "The U Decide event is an excellent way for local people to become involved in deciding what happens in their area.
"These are small projects, but they will make a big difference to people living in Chorlton and I'd encourage anyone who lives in the area to come along and have their say."
The event is only open to residents of the Chorlton ward. For more information contact Kirsteen Armitage from the regeneration team on 0161 277 1880 or e-mail k.armitage@manchester.gov.uk.
