Rusholme ward Council by election announced

A Council by-election will be held in Manchester's Rusholme ward on Thursday 4 May 2017.

It follows Councillor Kate Chappell, one of the ward's three current elected members on Manchester City Council, stepping down.

A full list of candidates will be published by 4pm on Wednesday 5 April at www.manchester.gov.uk/elections

Poll cards with polling station details will be sent to everyone registered to vote in the area – for those living in Rusholme ward there will be one Poll card for both the Council ward by-election and one for the Greater Manchester Mayoral election. Polling hours will be from 7am to 10pm.

People living in Rusholme ward are reminded that they need to be registered to vote in order to vote in this election. If you are not already registered, the deadline for applications to register to be received is Thursday 13 April. To register, go to www.gov.uk/registertovote. Registering is quick and easy - you'll need your national insurance number and a few other details.

Anyone who is registered to vote in the ward can request a postal vote. Completed applications must be received no later than 5pm on Tuesday 18 April.

Rusholme ward is in the Manchester Gorton parliamentary constituency, where a by-election will also take place to elect a new Member of Parliament for Manchester Gorton constituency following the death of Gerald Kaufman. The date for this parliamentary by-election is still to be confirmed.
