Effective 1 April 2026, Discretionary Housing Payments will be referred to as Housing Payments. Any applications currently awaiting processing will be assessed under the new Housing Payment scheme.
Residents who are already receiving support through the former Discretionary Housing Payment scheme will continue to receive their payments without the need to submit a new application.
We are in the process of updating our application forms and related materials to reflect these changes.
Housing Payments (HPs)
Housing Payments can help if you are struggling to pay your rent.
You must live in Manchester to apply for them.
We will look at your case to decide if you need extra support but there is no right to a housing payment.
To get a housing payment towards your rent you must either:
- be entitled to to some Housing Benefit from us; or
- be getting the Housing Element of Universal Credit.
Don't delay applying if you think you may qualify.
