Manchester City Council

Consultations and surveys About School Streets

What are School Streets?

A School Street is a road outside a school where traffic is limited at drop-off and pick-up times.

The aim is to:

  • reduce traffic and unsafe parking
  • improve air quality
  • make it safer to walk, wheel and cycle

How the new system will work

ANPR cameras will check vehicles entering during restricted times.

  • If a vehicle is allowed, it can enter
  • If not, the owner may get a fine (PCN)

At Our Lady’s RC Primary School, the boundary will also be clearer.

Warning period

There will be a 6-month warning period.

During this time:

  • first offence → warning letter
  • repeat offences → fine

After 6 months:

  • all offences may lead to a fine

Volunteers

Volunteers have helped make School Streets work. We value their support.

If you want to stay involved, email us at: schoolstreetcameras@manchester.gov.uk

How money from fines is used

The aim is safety, not income.

Any money from fines can only be used for:

  • road improvements
  • public transport
  • environmental projects

Signs and maps

You will see clear signs at each School Street.

Maps will show:

  • where restrictions apply
  • when they apply
