I live with one or more adults who are not full-time students
If you are a full-time student and live with adults who aren't, you may still qualify for a council tax discount or exemption.
Full-time students are usually not counted when council tax is worked out. This means the amount due depends on the circumstances of the other adults who live with you.
Before you start your application
Make sure you have:
- your student ID number
- the name of your college or university
- your course start and end dates
- the address of the property
- details of the other adults who live there.
Important
Your application will be assessed and a council tax account created.
You may receive a discount or exemption based on the information you provide.
We may carry out checks afterwards through information shared by universities or by asking you to provide a student certificate.
If we ask for further evidence, you must provide it to keep your discount or exemption.
Changes you must tell us about
After applying, you must tell us about changes. This includes if:
- someone moves into the property
- somebody moves out of the property
- you stop studying full-time
- your course ends.
These changes may affect your discount or exemption.
