People and communities Support for Ukraine

Many of us have been shocked and saddened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As a city we stand together with all those affected.

Manchester’s humanitarian response

Manchester has a long history of supporting those in need and welcoming people from troubled nations into our communities.

We are waiting for further information from the Government about accepting refugees in Manchester, but we want to be in the position to offer the maximum support, so we are:

  • In regular communication with the Government to understand what provisions Manchester needs to be ready to provide, should there be an ask for humanitarian support.
  • In discussions with local charities to understand how we might be able to work with them to support people fleeing from Ukraine who arrive in our city.
  • Talking to our Ukrainian communities to consider what support will be required if we are to welcome Ukrainian refugees.

How you can help

The safest and most effective way you can help is to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Funds raised will ensure refugees and displaced families get the support and essential supplies they need.

You can also donate to the Manchester Ukraine Welcome Fund, a public charity appeal that has been set up by the We Love Manchester charity to help frontline groups providing evacuees with the vital support they need.

Business support

You may also be concerned about what you can do as a business owner to help support Ukraine.

With this crisis many will be affected including local businesses and communities as we face another period of change. This change could impact a businesses ability to operate, their business resilience, and employees.

However there are resources available to help during this time.
