Unhygienic conditions

Food hygiene is relevant to everyone working in the food industry, including the distribution of food, selling food, producing, processing, storing or retailing food.

Unhygienic conditions include:

  • lack of hand washing between handling raw and cooked foods
  • unclean surfaces
  • staff wearing dirty uniforms
  • signs of pests

What you can do

If you wish to report a Manchester food premises where you have visited and seen unhygienic conditions the following is required:

  • name and address of the premises
  • date and time of your visit.

What we can do

Officers will investigate and take appropriate action through informal advice, visits by officers, or legal proceedings.

What we don't do

If the premises are outside the city you should contact the appropriate local authority and report to them direct.
