Parking Ancoats, Miles Platting and Collyhurst permit parking scheme

This consultation is now closed

We want to hear the views of residents and local businesses about a proposed permit parking scheme in the Miles Platting, Ancoats and Collyhurst area. We have changed the original proposal to make it simpler to use. Now the scheme will have two permit zones – one covering parts of Ancoats, and the other Miles Platting and part of Collyhurst.

The scheme has been shaped by feedback from local people and businesses. Now the restrictions are proposed to operate 8am to 9pm Monday to Sunday across the full scheme area.

There are a lot of residential properties in the area, as well as new and ongoing developments. The main issues are with commuters that park in the area and walk into the city centre. But there are also concerns around increased parking for events at the football stadium and the new arena.

The proposed scheme aims to address commuter parking issues and the impact this is having on the daily lives of people who live in this area. While some areas may not currently have a problem with parking, we want to anticipate future growth and apply the proposals across the whole area.

The Scheme

Permit parking only, except in marked bays, 8am to 9pm Monday to Sunday.

Residents will be able to apply for a free permit that can be used in the zone where they live. Signs on the street will tell people which zone they are in.

For those that don’t have a permit, such as short stay visitors or tradespeople, marked parking bays will be provided throughout the scheme. But the maximum stay will be restricted to 90 minutes. Visitors that need to stay for longer will be able to apply for a visitor permit, or use the paper permits that residents and businesses can also apply for.

What you will see on your street:

  • 'Past This Point' restrictions and signs. These will be indicated with boundary and repeater signs only, without the need for road markings.
  • Marked parking bays. Visitors to the area that do not have a permit can park in designated bays for short periods of time and these will be limited to 90 minutes.  These bays will be spread throughout the area so that visitors and tradespeople can still park close to where they need to be and close to local shops and businesses. This means that those from outside the area can continue to shop and make use of local facilities as they do now.
  • Existing single yellow lines. Permits do not allow parking on yellow lines when they are in force.
  • Other Parking bays. Permits do not allow parking in bays where signs do not include the words ‘Permit holders’. This includes:
    • Pay and display bays on Old Mill Street outside the medical centre.
    • Disabled bays on Old Mill Street outside the medical centre
