Zero carbon and climate change Action for residents

Travel

Cars and other fossil-fuel powered vehicles (petrol and diesel) create toxic fumes harmful for our lungs and planet. Carbon dioxide is a major cause of climate change and air pollution. Using your vehicle less is the easiest way to reduce this pollution. It can be good for your health and your wallet too.

Manchester is rethinking travel in our city. We’re working with Transport for Greater Manchester and the other Greater Manchester councils to improve buses, trams and trains. As well as cycling and walking.

It’ll be better for the environment and give us a more connected city that’s easier to get around. Find out more about Transport for Greater Manchester’s Bee Network.

Cycling

Want to try cycling but don’t have a bike? Head to your local bike library. They have bikes people of all ages can borrow, so you can give cycling a go. Have a bike you don’t need? You can donate your old bikes to the bike libraries for them to fix up and loan out.

The Bee Network offers cycle training and bike repair and maintenance workshops. To help to build your confidence.

Don’t forget, e-bikes are available for hire across the city centre. Find out where in the Beryl app

Electric (EV) vehicles

It’s estimated that by 2038, around 150,000 electric car and light goods vehicles could be in use in the city. To support that, the network of charging points across the city must expand. We're helping to grow the public network.

Find out more about EV charging in the city and how to charge at home.
