- The promoters are Manchester City Council, Manchester Libraries. This competition is only open to children aged 4 – 16 years, excluding employees of the promoter, their families, or anyone else professionally connected with this. The competition is free to enter.
- Promotion Period: Enter between 09.00 BST on 1st July 2026 and 17.00 BST on 12th Sep 2026.
- To Enter: Write a book review or create a drawing based on the book. Entry forms are available online at www.manchester.gov.uk/summerreadingchallenge or at your local library. You can email your entry to librarycompetitions@manchester.gov.uk or hand it back to a Manchester Library by 12th September.
- Multiple entries per child are allowed throughout the competition period. Only one prize can be won per household.
- All entries must be received by the end of the competition period to be valid, and no liability is accepted for illegible, incomplete or late entries.
- The Prizes:
Book Review and Drawing Competition, 8 winners will win 1 prize each.
The prize for ‘Write a book review’ is 1x Bundle of Books and 1x Kindle Fire Tablet.
The prize for ‘Drawing about a book’ is 1x Bundle of Books and 1x new art supplies.
One winner per age category for each competition (review or drawing) - The prize is non-transferable, is not exchangeable and has no cash alternative in whole or in part.
- In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Manchester City Council, Manchester Libraries reserves the right to substitute the prize for an alternative of equal or greater value.
- Winner Selection: All valid entries received by Manchester Libraries during the competition period will be checked & read by the Manchester Libraries Children's team and scored against a criterion for the competition. The competition judging team will meet, to jointly select eight winners. The judges’ decision is final.
Winners for the Book Review and Drawing Competition will be selected from the following age categories:
* 4-6 years
* 7-8 years
* 9 -10 years
* 11+ years - Winner Notification: The winner will be contacted via the telephone number or email address provided upon entry within 60 working days of the draw and will be required to respond to confirm eligibility plus acceptance of the prize within 14 days of initial contact. In the event a winner does not respond to communications within the 14 days of initial contact, Manchester Libraries reserves the right to disqualify that winner and allocate that prize to an alternative winner selected in the same manner.
- The Manchester Libraries reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entrants. Manchester Libraries may require such information as it considers reasonably necessary for this purpose, and a prize may be withheld unless and until Manchester Libraries is satisfied with the verification.
- All entries must be made by the entrant themselves. Your own digital art is acceptable but must not be A.I generated. Entrants who upload an entry online must retain a physical copy of the entry in case it is required by the Promoter. Only designs created using pen, pencil, paint or digitally, that use original design elements, without any copyright infringement will be considered as the WINNER. Entries that do not fit these requirements will not be considered.
- Incomplete or illegible entries, and entries which do not satisfy the requirements of these terms and conditions in full will be disqualified and will not be counted, using identities other than their own or any other means in order to increase that entrant’s entries into the Promotion in a way that is not consistent with the spirit of the Promotion, that entrant’s entries will be disqualified and any prize awarded will be void.
- No responsibility is accepted for entries lost, damaged or delayed or because of any network, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
- The promoter will only use the personal details supplied for the administration of the promotion and for no other purpose, unless we have your consent. Children’s names are required to enter them in the competition. This data will be used solely to administer the competition and non-winners' entries will be destroyed in December 2026, following the winners claiming their prizes. Winner's entries will be kept for 10 years. Parents/guardians are required to provide their contact details in order to enter the competition, and we may need to pass your details to third parties in order to administer the competition, or arrange prizes, but in all cases your information will only be used for this purpose, and held only as long as is reasonable for the purposes of managing the competition.
- Manchester City Council, may in their absolute discretion modify, amend, cancel or suspend these terms and conditions at any time if they deem necessary or if circumstances arise beyond their control.
- The promoter accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered because of entering this competition or accepting the prize.
- If for any reason the promotion is not capable of running as planned for reasons including but not limited to tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the promoter which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the promoter reserves the right (subject to any written directions given under applicable law) to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and to terminate, modify or suspend the promotion.
- If an act, omission, event or circumstance occurs which is beyond the reasonable control of the promoter and which prevents the promoter from complying with these terms and conditions the promoter will not be liable for any failure to perform or delay in performing its obligations.
- The winner will be required to participate in any reasonable publicity arising from the Promotion. These include social media photographs and blogs.
- By entering this promotion, all participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by these terms and conditions.
- The promoter’s decision is binding in all matters relating to this promotion, and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The Terms and Conditions of this promotion shall be interpreted and applied based on English Law and the Courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
