Brand new accommodation to support families who have become homeless is opening this week in south Manchester.

A complete refurbishment of Apex House, in Levenshulme has seen the former office building converted into 20 flats.

Owned and refurbished by HSPG, the council has leased the building for a year to house struggling families to prevent them from spiralling into long-term homelessness.

The flats at Apex House have been fully renovated to provide comfortable and high standard temporary homes for newly homeless families and families who have been staying in unsuitable bed and breakfast accommodation. Families staying at Apex House will also benefit from support to help them get back on their feet before their final move into their own homes.

Three support workers will be on site to help families find accommodation and it is estimated that families will be rehoused within eight weeks of moving into Apex House.

Councillor Luthfur Rahman, OBE, lead member on homelessness said:  " This is the first time we have a project like this up and running where we aim for a very quick turnaround to rehouse families. These new flats are a welcome addition to our portfolio of accommodation.  They have been refurbished to a very high standard so it's a win win situation for the council and the families. It is much better if we can keep people out of expensive bed and breakfast accommodation and provide the right targeted support early on to move families out of homelessness in as short a space of time as possible, freeing up the accommodation for other families in need."

David Searle COO and Co-founder of HSPG said: "HSPG are proud to be working with Manchester City Council on this flagship initiative to support homeless families. We are delighted to provide more high-quality affordable accommodation to those most in need. This scheme is a great example of how private investor funds can achieve a long-term social impact.".
