Surface Dressing is taking place on several arterial roads across August, to help prolong the life of the road surface.
What is Micro Surface Dressing?
Micro-surfacing uses is a mixture of a sticky substance (bitumen), small stones and cement, which:
- Seals the surface
- Improves surface texture
- Prolongs the life of the road for many years.
How the process works
- The road is swept and cleared of any build-up of dirt
- The Micro-surfacing machine is driven slowly along the road laying the mixture evenly
- Operatives follow behind the machine spreading the edge of the material into the kerbline and drainage channels
- Once the first layer has been applied and has set, the surface layer is laid in the same way
- The second layer will be applied approximately one week later
- Following completion of the surface, some of the stones will become loose. This is normal for this process, and these will be removed by a suction sweeper when necessary.
After the work is complete
Traffic signs will be left in place advising of the risk of loose chippings and showing an advised speed limit.
When the surface is embedded fully and all sweeping has been undertaken, all temporary traffic signs will be removed.
Parking restrictions
To allow the works to be carried out safely and on schedule, all vehicles must be removed from the road and any affected footways before works begin. Vehicles left within the works area may need to be relocated. Details of any parking restrictions and vehicle removals will be provided in advance of the works.
Please note: All dates are subject to change at short notice due to weather conditions, operational requirements or parked vehicles.
